Portraits
“FREEDOM”

Light Blue for Schools
As you go on, you find yourself reflected in your achievements, in others perceptions and even in dark corners. If you put anything at all into your work, it will shine back at you.

Classic Brown for portraits. Spontaneous moments are where we excel.
The questions are: Is it what you thought it would be? Is it enough? Is it what you want? We have had a wee bit of that and decided to clarify the answers and build a plan for the Wild Highlander. Articulate the things we care about and the way we care about them – then it is true for us and will be true for everyone.

One of my favourite images I have taken - to date.

Greater clarity would not have made for a better moment. Genuine feeling is a must in our style.
Wild Highlander is about people. It always has been about people. Through all the diversity of images on our site, 90% of them are of people. It is not that we love people, ( although we probably do), it is that we love what people are – fascinating, evolving buckets full of surprises and stories.
We try to make people look like they are and like they are perceived. If we can do that then – job done!

What you do not see is often more important that what you do. The mind fills in the blanks.

Even our Commercial work, like this chocolate advert, is driven to catch moments

Isn't this how every boy is seen by his mum!
There is consistency in our style but not cloning. We do not shake the face of one client into the frame of the last picture. But we do shoot in a similar style consistently and largely unwittingly. s our only reason for taking photographs at all.We have incorporated some legacy images not shown here before to introduce the brand diversity before we update you on many stories that we simply ran out of time to discuss last year.

This image shortlisted this client into the New York finals of the Ralph Lauren Modelling competition.
It is this creative freedom that sits at the essence of what we do – we have discovered. And it is this freedom that we will continue to place at the centre of our world. In creating our new look we have tried to release that looseness of style. A style that we had straight-jacketed in a fine edwardian script and the monochromatic elegance of our look to date.
Trying to make the brand reflect where we wanted to be rather than who we are.

Sometimes you find you have taken a picture that comes into your "I wish I'd taken that" category - and be thrilled you did. Found, not Posed.

Every Dog has his Day !

Taken in natural light on a cold winter dusk with a door light slightly shining from the left. Tribute to Nikon and the D3 Sensor.

Looks beautiful in a natural oak frame

Just light from a stairwell window. Nothing special but the day itself!
That closet is now trashed and we stand basking in natural light. The branding you see in the previous blog post and you will now see tranforming all of our communications and activities is designed to reflect that loose creative freedom that is our only reason for taking photographs at all.

Lisa Kwei (pronounced KWAY). First album is due out in June. Beautiful Singer who has served her apprenticeship.

I am proud if this image. It tells the esact story I was looking to achieve.

Don't know how this got so right but studio madness takes over sometimes

The Godfather. Looking hale and chipper but muttering ...'get on with it'

CROMARTY 13 WEEKS

Keep Alert for the unknown
It has been a busy few weeks for Cromarty. he has learned to commute, to wait, to walk on a lead, to guard a house, to greet strangers and ward off unwelcome ones, he has learned to paddle, almost to swim, the taste of seaweed and the pleasure of hurling it across the beach. he has found out that he is not a Great Dane but has a bigger heart and brain. He has met with vets, hotelliers, gardeners, babies, traffic and dogs. He has paraded down Padstow high street (it took an hour including all the adoration), and scampered across the cliff tops at Tintagel. He has enjoyed dog food, dog vomit, bird shit and rabbit droppings. He has met with wild horses and dined at the White Hart. All in all a satisfactory holiday for a 13 week old dog. › Continue reading

CROMARTY 9 Weeks
This is a lesson in how everything changes and something of a clock for me. Was it really two weeks ago…. Anyway here is a bigger boy although feeling somewhat shaky after his booster today.

Never trust a man with a lens
MOTHERSHIP
I was asked by my friend – the fabulous Lisa Kwei to come and shoot her band at the ACM Guildford Electric Theatre for their finals. I was granted a ‘test shoot’ by the Academy to shoot the band and here are some of the images – reproduced with kind permission of Lisa Kwei and Mothership.

I appreciate the kindness of the Academy for Contemporary Music for letting me shoot the band. Any future work with them will by subject to their copyright and not available here.
CROMARTY 7 Weeks
If you are English and under the age of 40 you probably will not get the “Anyone seen Ross – Yes, he is with Cromarty” reference. Whatever. Let me introduce the new lad in our family…

THE GODFATHER
It was a great pleasure to be visited by the Mike Crowe on Wednesday. He came to have his photograph taken and then for lunch. I shall not write too much about him now as he will think I am drafting an obituary but suffice it to say we think he is the best. This picture is one that he probably wont like as he seems to prefer colour but I believe that it shows him is a good light.

WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER COWBOY
In the style of Thunder Dome! We are delighted to be advertising in the Gay Wedding Advisor – published by our friends at Pink Weddings. As an accredited supplier to the Civil Partnership community, we have always taken delight in seeing people in love declare their commitment to life.

All you need is Love
We remain firmly on the outside of any form of political judgement, social comment or ’sympathetic’ pigeon-holing. We are human, we have a sense of humour, we value kindness and we share the joy. there is not much more to say other than – Come and talk to us about your celebrations either now on 01483 423209 or at the Gay Wedding Show in Brighton on the 15th of November.
WILD ANIMALS
We love to shoot images of children and animals – despite the constant advice to the contrary. This was shot in the wilds behind the studio. It was a quick shoot to round off a project that started a year and a half ago. In hindsight I am certain that we only scratched the surface but I am pleased with the pictures. This image is the one that was chosen for a present and is speeding on its way to One Vision and transformation into a box framed image about three feet wide! It will knock their socks off and is a fitting summary to our project.

Well directed images make all the difference
There are 10 other prints form this programme that have been framed from simple 7×5 images through 12×16s and onto this 36×13 image. Most of the work was completed in Lightroom with the client present. It is always good to get feedback and even art direction. Heaven knows it is good to work with opinionated people – at least they know what they want. Much of this image was directed by the boy in the picture. He is a great art director – or may be one day.
FRAN’S AWA’
My mate Fran Cacace and family are moving to New Zealand this weekend. He is to become a kept man whilst his wife toils and his children turn into Kiwi’s.

THE GOOD GOOD GIRLS

Backlighting and dark clothing combine to make a great modelling shoot.
We took some classic portraits at the weekend. The best part was that nothing went according to plan. The original plan was to take some quite formal images of the girls but the weather was so good that it did not feel right being inside and after all, God does the best lighting. So we › Continue reading
